Odisha recorded 29,051 suicide deaths over the past five years: CM

Bhubaneswar (22/09/2025): Odisha has recorded a total of 29,051 suicide deaths over the past five years, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the State Assembly. Responding to a query raised by MLA Bibhuti Bhusan Balabantaray, the Chief Minister shared annual data on suicides reported across the state. As per the figures presented, 2020 witnessed 5,482 reported cases of suicide. In 2021, the number climbed to 5,649. The upward trend continued in 2022, with 6,140 deaths. A slight decline was observed in 2023, recording 5,989 cases. So far in 2024, 5,791 individuals have died by suicide.
