EMPOWERTRANS commissions Odisha’s first Digital Process Bus-based 132 KV Grid Station at Agalpur

Bhubaneswar(22/09/2025): In a landmark achievement for the state’s power infrastructure, EMPOWERTRANS has successfully commissioned Odisha’s first-ever digital Process Bus-based 2x20 MVA, 132/33 KV grid substation at Agalpur, Rampur in Balangir district.
Developed for Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd.(OPTCL), this cutting-edge facility marks a significant technological leap, being the first of its kind by any State Transmission Utility (STU) in India. The substation was inaugurated on September 17, 2025, by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Energy, Odisha, K.V.Singhdeo in the presence of Member of Parliament, Balangir, Sangita Kumari Singhdeo.
The event celebrated not only the commissioning of a transformative infrastructure project but also the vision and leadership driving Odisha’s power sector into a new era of digital innovation. Speaking on the occasion, Asit Pradhan, Managing Director of EMPOWERTRANS, emphasized the significance of the project, stating that the Agalpur substation represents a paradigm shift in how power systems are designed, monitored, and controlled.
“This achievement reflects our commitment to pioneering advanced technologies and delivering sustainable, future-ready solutions,” he said. Unlike conventional substations, the Agalpur facility employs a Process Bus architecture that integrates digital sensors placed near equipment, fiber optic communication networks, and intelligent automation systems.
This enables real-time data analysis, faster fault detection, control and enhanced operational efficiency.
The digital design also contributes to a substantial reduction in carbon footprint, aligning with global sustainability goals. EMPOWERTRANS extended its gratitude to the leadership of CMD, OPTCL along with Directors and engineers, field staff, planners, and project managers whose dedication and expertise made this vision a reality.
